During my junior year at Elon University, I was searching for a summer internship in the District of Columbia, reviewing job openings, and pursuing numerous leads. The Workforce Recruitment Program for College Students with Disabilities (WRP) is a recruitment and referral program that connects public and private sector employers.
If you are a University of Mary Washington student with a disability, you are welcome to participate in our annual Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP), sponsored by the federal government. This program provides an opportunity for eligible students and graduates to be interviewed by a federal recruiter for internships, co-ops, or even permanent employment. Who is Eligible to Participate in WRP?
What is the Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP)? Are you interested in an internship or job with a federal agency? The is a recruitment and referral program that connects federal employers nationwide with college students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to prove their abilities in the workplace through summer internships or permanent jobs. The goal of the program is to increase the representation of persons with disabilities, especially severe disabilities, in the federal workforce. During the Fall 2017 semester, federal recruiters will conduct personal phone interviews with eligible candidates who complete the application process. During phone interviews, the recruiter will ask about candidates’ skills and potential career paths. Candidates represent all majors, and range from college freshmen to recently-graduated students.

Information from candidate interviews is compiled in a searchable database available to federal Human Resources Specialists, Equal Employment Opportunity Specialists, and other hiring officials in federal agencies. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) and the U.S. Department of Defense's Office of Diversity Management & Equal Opportunity (ODMEO) manage the program, which continues to be successful with the participation of many other federal agencies. How Do I Qualify? To qualify as an eligible candidate, you must meet all three of the following criteria: 1. Be a United States Citizen. Be a current, full-time undergraduate or graduate student.

Graduated from Webster April 2016 or after. Candidates who graduated prior to April 2016 are NOT eligible to participate. Have an intellectual disability, psychiatric disability, or severe physical disability which makes you eligible to obtain a Schedule A letter from a licensed medial professional, a licensed rehab professional, or any federal/state agency or entity that issues or provides disability benefits.
Next Steps If you meet all three of the above qualifications and are interested in interviewing for inclusion in the 2018 WRP database, please register. Registration opens on August 28, 2017 and closes on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. Once registered and approved, complete your online application and upload your resume and transcript.

Phone interviews will be conducted by WRP recruiters during late October to mid-November 2017. Candidate information will be loaded into the employment database in December 2017 and will remain active for one year.
